The Objective

The goal for this project is to build and connect two or more computer systems to jointly work together solving computational problems.  In our case, we will use our distributed computing network to execute a brute force attack on various password files.  Success for this project is not measured by finding passwords.  Participants will be bench-marking against the computational baseline of single machines.

Hardware/Software/Knowledge Requirements 

  • A physical or virtual machine (strong preference on physical)
  • Operating system TBD
  • Ability to seek out information and answers
  • Some knowledge of Linux

Personal Commitments 

  • 3 hours a week
  • Attendance to a bi-weekly group meeting (time will be decided upon by all members)
